Chapter 583: He’s a Living Bodhisattva
After eating and drinking to their fill, Yang Cheng and Uncle Pan went to a nearby market, promising to buy candy and meat for the villagers. Yang Cheng generously bought out all the candy at the market.
However, there was no refrigerator in the village, and meat was hard to store, so he didn’t buy too much. Instead, he bought out all the foods that could be preserved.
With so many things, his car definitely couldn’t hold them all, so he simply hired another truck to go together with the one that had delivered clothes before, heading toward Wangchuan Valley.
Originally, the truck drivers were unwilling to take this job. After all, it was such a remote place, and Wangchuan Valley often had bandits; it was really too dangerous.
Yang Cheng, with a gesture of generosity, offered each of them ten thousand as a hardship fee, which finally convinced the two drivers to head out.
Even though they moved quickly, by the time they reached Wangchuan Valley, the sun had already set. Going further inside meant navigating winding mountain roads, which large trucks definitely couldn’t access.
Yang Cheng got off the truck, and said to the driver, "Masters, I need to drive the car into the mountains a few trips. You wait here; I’ll give each of you an additional five thousand."
The two drivers hesitated for a moment, then nodded and said, "Alright, but hurry up. This Wangchuan Valley is too scary after dark, and we don’t want to stay here overnight."
"I’ll do my best. Let’s first move the clothes onto my vehicle."
Yang Cheng instructed the drivers to open the car doors and stuffed all the clothes inside his car, even tying a large parcel on top of the car before driving in.
"Uncle Pan, you mentioned before that taking a car to Hidden Cloud Village takes longer; by foot, we can take a shortcut. Quickly return to the village and call all the villagers to come and help me out; this will save us some time."
With so much cargo, it would take several trips between Wangchuan Valley and Hidden Cloud Village. If this goes on, it might take all night to transport everything, so mobilizing the villagers was the only option.
"Good idea, I’ll head in right now."
Uncle Pan’s eyes lit up as he spoke and was ready to get out of the car.
Yang Cheng handed him a knife and cautioned, "Take this for protection. Although I’ve dealt with the Wildmen, you should still be cautious and inform the villagers to be safe. Everyone must stick together."
"I’ll remember."
Uncle Pan nodded repeatedly, quickly disappearing into the woods after getting out of the car.
Despite looking elderly, Uncle Pan had been delivering goods to Hidden Cloud Village for years and was incredibly agile at mountain climbing. He could probably return to the village in about an hour.
Yang Cheng quickly drove on. In the passenger seat was the wedding dress intended for Yue Ying; he glanced at it, the corner of his mouth curling up into a smile.
That girl would surely be delighted to see such a beautiful wedding dress.
Meanwhile, in Hidden Cloud Village.
Seeing that it was already dark and Yang Cheng and Uncle Pan hadn’t returned, the villagers became anxious, lighting torches and gathering at the village entrance, waiting worriedly.
Before long, they saw a figure running swiftly towards them.
Yun Chan saw that only Uncle Pan had returned and immediately felt a pang in her heart, quickly asking, "Where is Yang Cheng? Why hasn’t he come back yet? Did something happen?"
Uncle Pan caught his breath several times before speaking, "Nothing happened; the Little Divine Doctor is driving the car over here with the cargo. There’s simply too much, and one trip isn’t enough. He sent me back to the village to call people to help, which will save some time."
Upon hearing this, Yun Chan breathed a sigh of relief and quickly gathered the villagers.
"Now, all able-bodied men in the village follow Uncle Pan to assist, and the women go to the village entrance to move the goods. The Little Divine Doctor bought these things for everyone without taking a penny. Don’t be lazy."
The villagers cheered, rushing home to fetch carts and sacks to make transporting goods easier later.
Half an hour later, Yang Cheng encountered the villagers who had come to assist.
Seeing the car loaded with clothes and dozens of packed dishes, the villagers were astonished.
Few of them had ever been to the city, and even if they had, they wouldn’t have spent money on meat dishes. Now, the aroma of the meat had them drooling.
"These meals are for you. Eat if you want, so you’ll have the strength to transport the goods."
Yang Cheng instructed them before quickly driving away, lest the two drivers grow impatient and leave.
As soon as he left, the villagers opened a few takeout boxes and began feasting.
"The Little Divine Doctor is truly wonderful, not only spending money to buy things for us but also so much meat and dishes for us to eat freely."
"I’ve never seen such a good person; he’s like a living Bodhisattva!"
"This meat is so delicious; city dishes are indeed something else."
In just a few minutes, they finished eating ten servings, and with newfound energy, they lifted the goods from the ground and hurried toward the village.
All night long, Yang Cheng ran back and forth countless times; the car wheels were practically smoking.
The two drivers, speaking with exasperation, said, "Mr. Yang, you promised we wouldn’t have to stay overnight, and now it’s nearly morning."
"I’ll give each of you another five thousand."
Yang Cheng directly handed them two stacks of money, considering they had waited all night, a bit more hardship pay wasn’t a big deal.
The drivers, receiving the money, finally smiled warmly and helped Yang Cheng with the cargo.
"Mr. Yang, this place is so desolate. Are there really residents in these deep mountains?"
One of the drivers asked curiously.
"There are a few scattered families. I came here to collect herbs and felt they had it tough, wanted to donate some supplies,"
Yang Cheng casually replied.
Not wanting to say more, the driver tactfully didn’t press further.
Once the last of the goods were loaded, the two of them left together.
It was already past five in the morning, with the sky gradually brightening. The villagers, exhausted and lying limp on the ground, had worked tirelessly all night.
They didn’t have to fetch this last load, but they all waited at the village entrance to welcome Yang Cheng’s return.
"Oh my gosh! So many nice things, we’ve never seen anything like this!"
"Look, there are even wedding dresses! Over ten sets, and they’re so beautiful!"
"There’s candy! The Divine Doctor Brother is so kind!"
The villagers—young and old—looked at the piled-up goods with faces full of delight.
Especially the wedding dresses, which left everyone amazed by the Little Divine Doctor’s thoughtfulness in considering even this.
Yue Ying stood among the crowd, feeling disheartened seeing those dozen or so wedding dresses.
Yesterday morning, she had requested a wedding dress, expecting to have a unique city-style wedding dress, only to find out everyone had one.
Ultimately, those brides would spend a night with Yang Cheng, and to him, all women were the same, nothing special.
The more she thought about it, the more Yue Ying felt distressed, her heart aching with a sharp pain.
"Yue Ying, what’s wrong?"
Ni Qingyao, seeing her clutching her chest and looking pained, quickly came over to support her.
"Auntie, I’m feeling unwell. Please take me home,"
Yue Ying weakly uttered, and Ni Qingyao helped her back home.
