Chapter 256 - 217: Slaying a Golden Core, Space Swimming
At this very moment, in the void, Bai Xianyi and Wei Shenming—who had been blasted out of Chaos City by a fierce gale—were struggling to swim back toward the abandoned city.
The moment they were swept out of Chaos City, they received a system notification. It informed them that they had entered the void, where all their skills and items were sealed. If they couldn’t return to solid ground within 12 hours, the system would forcibly eject them from the Corridor of Chaos.
A single, massive gust of wind had blown them a couple of miles away!
They now felt as if they were in outer space, completely weightless. There was nothing to push off from, but there was air, allowing them to swim. Even so, despite their best efforts, their forward progress was incredibly slow, averaging only ten or twenty centimeters per second.
Just then, they received more system notifications.
The notifications came in like a barrage, shaking them to the core and leaving expressions of utter disbelief on their faces.
They were residents of Changqing Island and disciples of Changqingzi. They had accepted many quests from him and had even unlocked the "Last Cultivator" story quest.
But now, it was all gone!
With Changqingzi dead, Changqing Island became masterless territory. Its Spiritual Energy had scattered, and they had lost their status as residents.
All of their associated story quests had been canceled.
The resulting losses were immense.
Bai Xianyi was in a slightly better position. She was a Free Scholar, and though she had started the Sword Immortal discipline, she wasn’t technically a member of a Cultivation Profession.
Wei Shenming, on the other hand, was in a terrible spot. He was a Cultivator on a class-advancement path and had already reached Foundation Establishment. Changqingzi had been his class trainer, and now that the trainer was dead, there was no one left to handle his progression. His Realm would be permanently stuck at Foundation Establishment!
"Damn it! That old fox Changqingzi was always so careful, and he had so many Magical Treasures... How did that guy even manage to kill him? Bai Xianyi, what do we do now?"
"Let’s just focus on getting back to solid ground first!"
Bai Xianyi replied, inwardly scolding herself for being so reckless. ’I should have tried to talk things over with Sun Wukong. We have a decent rapport, after all. There was no need for us to be enemies.’
"Goddammit! One minute we’re exploring a Secret Realm, the next we’re swimming in space!"
Wei Shenming grumbled, thinking to himself, ’I finally stumbled upon a great opportunity by coming to this Corridor of Chaos Secret Realm. I can’t get kicked out this quickly.’
As they continued to swim, a large number of zombies were suddenly blown into the void, appearing right in front of them.
The zombies were still animate, snarling and thrashing about. They spun in place as they hung suspended in the void, letting out low, guttural roars.
Hostile to all intruders, their eyes turned blood-red upon spotting Bai Xianyi and Wei Shenming, and they began struggling to get closer.
Behind them, with a great WHOOSH, even more zombies were blown down. They floated in the void, blocking Bai Xianyi and Wei Shenming’s path.
The pair was dumbstruck.
Without the zombies in their way, they might have had some hope of swimming back to the abandoned Chaos City. But now, with a horde of them blocking the path and giving chase, the way forward was a dead end.
Utterly helpless, the two could only turn and swim away into the distance. A horde of zombies gave chase, and a bizarre pursuit began to unfold in the void, with both sides moving at less than twenty centimeters per second.
Back in the abandoned Chaos City, Li Longyu was gleefully using the Palm Leaf Fan. She chased after hordes of zombies, fanning them with the wind and blowing them out of the city in huge batches.
Killing these lesser zombies yielded almost no rewards, but ignoring them was a nuisance. It was much easier to just blow them all away, saving time and effort.
Meanwhile, Wang Yi was still examining the Treasure Chest that Changqingzi had dropped.
