Chapter 154: My Halo

"My Lord?"

I turned in the direction of the voice, "Oh, hi Olivia. Sorry, I didn’t hear you come in."

She looked around before her gaze settled on my hand, "I apologise but... May I know what you are doing?"

I looked down at the small flag that I was holding, "Mmm... Doing some renovations? Oh, thanks for all the hard work. I still can’t believe you guys prepared a place like this for me."

"Ah... Umm... It is our honour, my Lord. But... What’s with all the flags?" She asked, looking at all the small, ethereal flags I had planted around the room.

"Don’t worry, they’re just temporary markers. Apparently I awakened a new skill of mine where I can create formations and these flags serve as markers for me to measure distances and energy readings. They’re incorporeal and they’ll disappear once I’m done."

When I was thinking about making formations inside the rooms, I realised that I needed more precise measurements to check the spacing of the furniture and was just about to go ask for some tape measures when these flags appeared in my hands.

I quickly learned about their purpose when the information flowed into my head just like the knowledge on formations so I went about using them to create a big formation over the entire penthouse.

Honestly, half the time I didn’t really know what I was doing but when I thought about something, the information just flowed inside my head immediately.

"Ah... I wasn’t worried about that, my Lord. This is, after all, your personal room. You can do whatever you wish to it. I was just afraid that you might think the room was inadequate and I could ask the Bunarfs to rebuild it in that case."

I quickly shook my head, "Oh, no, no! I think this is totally fine! In fact, I feel like it might even be too much for me! I love it, don’t worry, Olivia."

"I am glad to hear that, my Lord. In that case, do you need any help?"

I shook my head as I threw the small flag towards the wall where it stuck itself to it, "It’s alright, I’m almost done. Give me a moment..."

With the last flag in place, I placed my palms together and concentrated.

Different Chinese characters representing the different elements as well as laws appeared in the air and floated around me before they flew off towards the various corners of the room.

They imprinted themselves into a formation, prompting the flags to disappear even as more spectral words appeared in their place.

Everything connected to form up into a giant array.

The array lit up and I felt power course through it for a moment before the words in the air disappeared, the formation infusing itself with the entire penthouse.

I let out a sigh as the energy in the room flowed into me, filling me with energy and giving me a sense of serenity.

Ironically, this place felt more homely to me than anywhere else.

I turned to Olivia to see her reaction, only to find the red Oni looking around with wide eyes.

"Is something wrong?" I asked.

She spun back to me, "What... What did you do, my Lord?"

"Hmm... The formation is meant to increase your body’s regeneration, calm your mind, gather the ambient life energy around the area, and several other things that would make it more comfortable to be in here."

"It... It feels like... Like I’m standing somewhere I shouldn’t be..."

That’s... Not a reaction I thought I would get...

"What do you mean?"

"It feels like I’m standing in sacred ground, my Lord. I think you have consecrated this place with your divine energy."

Err... I guess that’s possible... I did use my own Qi and mana to create the array after all...

But for her to feel like she isn’t welcomed...

Oh, I know what’s wrong.

I sucked in a breath and summoned up the array again, inspecting the circular pattern of words and symbols in front of me.

I then found the part that I needed to change and went ahead to add another word there before I activated it again.

The same feeling washed over me and I basked in the feeling for a moment before turning to Olivia once again.

This time... I was met with another bizarre sight...

She had prostrated herself with her forehead pressed against the ground.

"Err... Olivia? What are you doing?"

"I... I think you need to give me permission to be here, my Lord... I’m getting a really oppressive feeling where if I even raise my head... I might get obliterated..."

Ah... I made it such that people who I have granted permission would also get the full effects of the array... But I guess I need to manually give the permission first or something for the array to recognise them.

I cleared my throat, "I grant you permission to be in this domain."

But... Even after that, Olivia still remained prostrating on the ground.

Olivia slowly lifted her head, her face showing a complicated expression.

"My Lord... This may just be my personal bias but... I honestly think you will be the one to stand above even the other Mortal Gods."

"Umm... Well...I’m flattered but... Why would you say so?"

She gave me a serious look, "You have just created an actual, permanent domain... Something that other Mortal Gods would take years or even find it impossible to do."

I raised an eyebrow, "Err... I mean... That could just be something I am good at? Maybe I’m the god of domains or something?"

"Might I remind my Lord that you have already shown that you are capable of manipulating reality as well? Something that is already beyond the reach of most other Mortal Gods?"

Right... I forgot about that... Though it’s more because there’s a big drawback with the skill which I have not grown accustomed to yet... So it doesn’t feel like an actual skill that I could use at the moment.

Seeing me go silent, Olivia looked around the room before asking, "Forgive me for asking but... How did you materialise the domain, my Lord? I’ve seen other Mortal Gods materialise domains before but they usually involve them using rare materials or Mana Crystals to mark the area they are using to materialise the domain."

I called up the array in front of me again, "Well... I recently learned that if you were to use specific symbols and characters of specific meaning inside a specially prepared array, you can create a formation where--"

"My Lord?" Olivia interrupted.

I knew she would not interrupt me unless it was something important so I stopped and turned to her, wondering if there was something wrong.

She had her phone out and I narrowed my eyes at it to realise she had turned on her camera application and flipped it to her front camera so that whatever it saw was reflected on the screen pointing towards me.

In the frame, I saw myself and a halo that was glowing with golden light behind me, exactly like the last time I had explained the difference between mana and Qi to my Guardians.

But even as I watched, it started to fade away before disappearing completely.

"When did that appear?" I asked.

"Just now, when you were starting to explain to me about how you materialised the domain, my Lord."

So it appeared again... But what was the cause of it?

Wait...

I turned back to Olivia, "Tell me if the halo appears again. Stop me immediately if it does."

She nodded to show she understood and I tried to walk back my thoughts to figure out what might have caused the halo to appear and what it meant when it did.

"Hmm... The formation... I made it... It has special effects related to the characters and symbols... It’s related to the god that I am personifying... It is a powerful skill... Nothing?"

Olivia shook her head, "Nothing, my Lord..."

"If none of that caused it to appear... Then what? Hmm..."

It supposedly appeared right after I started explaining about it... So I thought it might be the topic itself since the last time was related to Qi as well... But apparently it wasn’t the case...

If the topic that I was talking about wasn’t the cause... Then what else?

Actually... Now that I think about it... Isn’t it really weird that I suddenly know about all of this stuff like I’ve been studying them for a long time?

Like if I think about wanting to know what this specific character in the formation meant... The information would suddenly appear in my mind and guide me subconsciously on what I needed it for and what I should do with it...

Like the character for ’person’, I could use it as the--

"There! It’s there, my Lord!!"

I paused.

The character of ’wood’... It contains the concept of--

"It’s getting brighter, my Lord!"

Ah... I get it now... It’s when I want to know something and get the knowledge being inserted into my head... That’s when my halo will appear.
